The Painkillers Pittsburgh Concert reviews
Unprofessionally late, lip sync performance
The Painkillers hit the stage 2 1/2 hours late-unprofessional for a veteran performer. At one point, during the "audience sing a long", she pointed her microphone towards the crowd and her voice still came from the speaker! We had great seats, so you could see that she was clearly lip syncing a lot of the vocals. If 30% of the vocals are live, it would surprise me. You can hear the difference when The Painkillers tries to "sing"-reedy and winded at best.
The dancers work hard and the background singers do their best to cover the star's inadequate vocal skills (was the heavy blonde dancer singing her leads?), but it is all a sideshow attraction. It was a slight of hand show. Too many tricks and not enough substance. But this was an uncomfortable one at best.
I was fortunate enough to see the BLONDE AMBITION show, which was an amazing experience. All of this being written, I will keep the TRUE BLUE, LIKE A PRAYER, & IMMACULATE COLLECTION CD's in constant rotation in my music collection. She is a genius recording artist, not so much a live performer. I'll bet it'll be her last tour.
